SUNBEAM BOOKS - SELF PUBLISHING: DESIGN & LAYOUT
Many budding writers and already established authors are taking up the opportunities afforded them today to self-publish. A print-on-demand set-up in particular can give you the chance to test the waters without the huge initial outlay of traditional publishing or printing.
After going through my own process of self-publishing with the publication of my children’s book Laugh again, Kinta! I have since been able to offer a book layout & design service to others; several with full colour covers and black and white internal pages, others with full colour throughout. Online publication services I have used have been Lulu, Lightning Source and Blurb. These sites also offer ways to promote and distribute your book.

Sayings to Soothe the Soul
Leslie's book is a 7x7 square book printed through Blurb. Her simple, yet profound sayings required an un-embellished look to let the words and images speak for themselves. I worked with Leslie to match imagery with her sayings, mostly sourced through online stock photo libraries. If you are looking for images for your project, you can purchase images from these libraries with either standard or extended licenses. Book layout using Blurb's plugin for InDesign.

This book was a project to highlight many of the beautiful writings, artwork and photographs produced by my mother, Valerie Crawford. It was printed through Blurb initially as a hardcover with a dust jacket with textured art paper, then with an imagewrap cover and their standard paper. The Lost Art of Room Travel
Jennifer's book: "The Lost Art of Room Travel is a narrative non-fiction account of the author's journey around her study." The book layout was done in InDesign to Lightning Source's specs for a 8x5.2 paperback. The cover design used photographs supplied by the author.
